In 2020, an expanded immigration control point was put into operation at the airport at the western check-in positions 0-2. Mid this year saw the opening of the new, enlarged East entry control point for check-in positions 10-12. The comprehensive restructuring measures within the Federal Police border controls framework are partly due to the Europe-wide introduction of the electronic entry and exit system 'EES'. With the implementation of the new system, including the recording of biometric characteristics, control processes, particularly upon entry, will take more time in the future. To mitigate potential delays, the airport is creating the necessary infrastructure to allow the Federal Police to adapt their personnel and operational structures accordingly. As slower processes are also expected for departures, the Supervisory Board today approved the construction of an enlarged exit control point. The new checkpoint, comprising four control lanes, is to be set up in front of waiting rooms 11 and 12 later this year.
