Dortmund Airport concludes this year's autumn holidays with a passenger increase of about 27.5 percent. Between 12 and 27 October, a total of 172,174 arriving and departing passengers used Dortmund's runway. In the corresponding period last year, nearly 135,000 travellers were recorded, representing an increase of more than 37,000 passengers in absolute numbers.
Out of the over 40 travel destinations accessible from Dortmund, the same favourites emerged as seen during the previous summer holidays. The Dortmund – Katowice route was the most popular, attracting nearly 21,000 passengers. Many passengers took advantage of the autumn holidays to soak up some sun in Mallorca before the cold weather set in. The Balearic Island was the second most booked destination with nearly 15,800 travellers and over 100 flights. The route to Bucharest came close to a five-digit guest number with around 9,200 passengers. The busiest period occurred at the start of the holidays: On Saturday, the 12th of October, nearly 13,000 passengers were reported at the airport.
The positive autumn holiday results confirm the predicted growth trend of the airport. Since the summer holidays, demand has remained strong, making September stand out as one of the top months with almost 298,000 travellers. A similarly high level is expected for October, moving the airport closer to its annual target of 3 million passengers.
