Annual report 2017

After examination by the auditing firm PwC, a result of minus 13.75 million euros (EU operating result: minus 2.2 million euros) was confirmed. This represents an improvement of 1.0 million euros compared to the previous year. The effects that contributed to this development were triggered above all by rising revenues and a passenger increase of 4.3 percent. “The annual results for 2017 are proof that our strategy for achieving a balanced operating result, as laid down in the Future Concept 2023 plan, is effective and is bearing fruit,” explains airport CEO Udo Mager.

Dortmund Airport has reached its goal for 2017 of exceeding the two million passenger mark. A total of 2,000,695 passengers used Dortmund Airport. Passenger numbers over two million were last seen at Dortmund Airport ten years ago. Airport CEO Udo Mager explains: “With these numbers, we are building on our peak year before the 2008 crisis and maintaining our position as number three among NRW passenger airports. Despite some uncertainties and challenges, such as the geopolitical events of the past year and the closure of the Palma connection by Air Berlin for the winter timetable 2014/2015, we have managed to return to a growth track with 2,000,695 passengers.”

Growth in 2017 was boosted in particular by new connections to Varna, Thessaloniki, Hurghada and Vienna in the second half of the year. Coupled with the increased passenger volume on existing routes and an increased frequency on some routes, Dortmund Airport was able to achieve passenger growth of 4.3 percent at the end of the year.

The Hungarian airline Wizz Air has made an important contribution to this success. The airline partner serves top destinations for Dortmund Airport such as Katowice and Budapest, which are frequented by both business and private travellers.
