On 20 August, Hungarian airline Wizz Air launched a new connection from Dortmund Airport. With immediate effect, travellers can fly to the Serbian city of Niš from Dortmund on three days a week. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, Wizz Air planes are available to bring travellers to the third-largest city in Serbia.

Guido Miletic, Marketing & Sales Manager at Dortmund Airport, welcomed the pilots and crew members of the first flight, number W6 4272, to Niš on the apron at Dortmund Airport.

"The extension of the Wizz Air flight schedule to Eastern Europe is designed to respond to the high demand for ethnic traffic within the Ruhr region. We are delighted by the ongoing development of our strongest customer at Dortmund Airport," said Miletic regarding the new connection from Dortmund to Niš.

Wizz Air spokesperson Gabor Vasarhelyi commented that, "The new Wizz Air destination to Serbia once again underscores our company's confidence in Dortmund Airport as a location. A large proportion of the Hungarian airline's German flights take off from here."

The Serbian city of Niš is characterised by its Western Roman and Ottoman empire history, which has lent it the epithet of the "Gateway between East and West". Around 250 kilometres to the southeast of Belgrade and 160 kilometres to the west of Sofia, culture lovers will encounter numerous historical sights in this Serbian city. Niš Fortress, which primarily serves as a cultural venue today, imposingly overlooks the city. Here, international music and film festivals, for example, are held in an impressive atmosphere.
