With three months left until the end of the year, passenger numbers at Dortmund Airport are again on the rise. To date this year, a total of 2,346,016 arriving and departing passengers have been recorded. This puts the current traffic volume slightly above last year's figures, with an increase of 1.3 percent.

Traditionally, the months from July to September are the busiest period for passenger traffic at Dortmund Airport. Following a slight dip in the second quarter, the trend turned positive again in the third quarter. In the third quarter, a total of 892,488 passengers travelled through the airport (2023: 887,937). 887.937). August, influenced by the summer holidays, was the busiest month, with over 300,000 travellers.

Thanks to the positive trend in the third quarter and a favourable forecast for the next three months, the goal of more than three million passengers set at the beginning of the year is now attainable again. “The gradual reintroduction of Wizz Air aircraft after the repair of the Pratt & Whitney Neo engines, alongside the expansion of the Pegasus route to Istanbul, forms the backdrop for this positive trend,” says airport chief Ludger van Bebber. However, the overall conditions in air transport remain challenging due to high regulatory costs in Germany, including air traffic tax, approach, and aviation security fees.

In the final quarter of the year, the airport anticipates two significant travel spikes, prompted by the upcoming autumn and Christmas holidays. The airport is also excited to welcome a new airline by the end of the year: Starting in December, DAN AIR will operate the route to Bacău.
