When schools close their doors in Germany’s most populous federal state and the summer holidays begin, the best time of the year kicks off for many travellers: the summer vacation. From 18 July to 1 September, Dortmund Airport is expecting the busiest travel period of the year and anticipates at least 500,000 passengers. Whether it’s a beach holiday, a city break or a visit to family and friends: With 38 destinations in 18 countries, Dortmund Airport offers an extensive route network for the summer travel season.

Holiday options range from relaxing beach holidays on the Turkish Riviera around Antalya or on the Aegean coast near Izmir to variety-packed city breaks in vibrant metropolises such as London, Warsaw and Istanbul. The Hungarian capital, Budapest, is also accessible several times a week; with its location on the Danube and its unique blend of history and modern city life, it’s the perfect destination for an exciting summer city break. The Balearic island of Mallorca remains a regular feature of the flight schedule. With around 21 weekly flights operated by Condor and Eurowings, travellers have access to a particularly extensive network of routes to this popular holiday island. The Balkans, too, are continuing to grow in importance as an attractive holiday destination. Tirana offers up to two daily connections between its bustling city life and the Adriatic coast, which is just around 30 minutes away; Podgorica is the starting point for exploring Montenegro’s natural beauty; and Varna attracts visitors with its long sandy beaches on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast.

To ensure your journey gets off to a smooth start, it’s worth preparing well: Due to the expansion of the A40 motorway, travellers may experience detours and prolonged journey times in the area around the airport. They should bear this in mind when planning their journey and allow plenty of time for the trip. It is recommended that you arrive at the airport 3 hours before your flight departs. Anyone travelling by car should also book a parking space online in advance. Passengers flying with Wizz Air can check in their luggage themselves at Dortmund Airport using one of the ten self-service bag drop counters. The usual regulations on liquids continue to apply at Dortmund Airport: Each passenger may only carry liquids in a resealable 1-litre bag, with individual containers not exceeding 100 ml.

Dortmund Airport wishes you a relaxing holiday period and a great start to your holiday.
