Dortmund Airport reflects on a strong first half of 2025. During the first six months, a total of 1,483,459 passengers utilised Dortmund Airport. This marks an increase of nearly 30,000 passengers compared to last year, equating to a modest yet welcome rise of about 2.1 percent. Increased flight frequencies alongside new routes were not the only developments, as the expanded use of the Airbus A321neo by Hungarian airline Wizz Air led to a significant boost in capacity due to more seats available.

"We leveraged the positive momentum from the year's end to benefit the course of the summer season, effectively offsetting the absence of Ryanair and the reduction of Eurowings routes in the summer schedule," explains Airport CEO Ludger van Bebber. The increased frequency of Condor flights to Palma de Mallorca, along with the reinforcement of Wizz Air's connection to Katowice, largely offset the loss of Ryanair capacity. Since the beginning of June, Wizz Air's new routes to Warsaw and Craiova, as well as the Pegasus Airlines connection to Antalya introduced in April, have added notable momentum. In June, 293,942 passengers were recorded, significantly surpassing the previous year's figure (June 2024: 278,280 passengers; growth of 5.6%).

"This growth keeps us on a promising path," stresses van Bebber, who confidently asserts that "we will continue striving to enhance our flight offerings, ensuring all our guests enjoy the familiar range of travel options." Further developments are already in the pipeline. Connections to Szymany in Poland and Niš in Serbia will soon be reinstated in the flight schedule, with Yerevan being serviced more frequently from autumn.
