Green light for the third connection to Italy: With yesterday’s first flight, Wizz Air added the route from Dortmund Airport to Rome Fiumicino Airport to its timetable. Travellers can reach the Italian capital in just over two hours, with up to seven flights a week providing flexible options for city breakers and business travellers. Following Palermo and Milan, Rome is already the third Italian destination to be added to Dortmund Airport’s flight schedule this year.

To mark the official opening of the route, Guido Miletic, Head of Airport Services + Marketing & Sales, took to the apron to welcome the crew of the inaugural flight. "After complementing our flight schedule with the attractive Mediterranean destination of Palermo, then Milan, one of northern Italy’s most important cities, we are now expanding our Italian programme to include Rome, a unique destination that blends cultural appeal with economic significance”, explains Guido Miletic. “The fact that Wizz Air is continually building on its services from Dortmund is a positive trend that we welcome wholeheartedly – for our region and travellers alike.”

Wizz Air also emphasises the importance of the new route. “The launch of our connection from Dortmund to Rome is an important and exciting step towards further expanding travel options for passengers in the Ruhr region. With a daily direct flight to the Italian capital, we’re making it easier than ever for our customers to discover Rome’s extraordinary history, culture and vibrant way of life – whilst enjoying the comfort and affordable fares offered by Wizz Air. We look forward to welcoming even more passengers on board and connecting Dortmund with one of Europe’s best-known destinations” says Olivia Harangozo, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air.

With a history stretching back more than 2,700 years, Rome is like an open-air museum. World-famous monuments such as the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Pantheon dominate the cityscape. The Vatican, which is entirely enclosed within Rome and home to St Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel, captivates countless visitors as well.

Aside from its rich culture, Rome is renowned for its culture of indulgence: classic pizza, traditional Roman pasta dishes such as cacio e pepe, as well as tiramisu and gelato, are just as much a part of a visit to the city as exploring its historic squares and alleyways. Expansive green spaces and the Tyrrhenian coast – which is just around an hour away – also provide a wide range of opportunities to combine culture and leisure.
