Together with Wizz Air, Dortmund Airport today welcomed the latest addition to its route network: The first flight to Oradea took off this morning. This latest addition increases the Ruhr region airport's portfolio to a total of ten destinations in Romania. With a flight time of around two hours, the route is operated twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays, from Dortmund.

With more than 35 weekly flights, Romania is the country with the most connections in the airport’s route network. “The high demand for Romanian destinations stems in particular from frequent travel between places of work and home, as well as the economic dynamism in South-East Europe,” explains Guido Miletic, Head of Airport Services + Marketing & Sales. “We are delighted that, together with Wizz Air, we are able to meet the high demand with an additional route.”

Oradea is also a great destination for tourists. The city is situated in the west of the country and is considered by many travellers to be a real hidden gem. Owing to the city’s historical ties to the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, numerous magnificent Art Nouveau buildings characterise the cityscape. Oradea is situated just around ten kilometres from the Hungarian border and also has close cultural ties with its neighbouring country: Just like Hungary, the region is known for its thermal baths and natural healing springs. This eventful history is also reflected in the local cuisine, which is characterised by Romanian, Hungarian and Austrian influences. Not far from the city lie the Apuseni Mountains, a mountain range in the western Romanian Carpathians that is ideal for nature and outdoor activities.

“We are proud to launch yet another new route to Oradea, which provides a direct link between Germany and western Romania. With this direct service, operated by a modern aircraft from the Airbus A320 family, we are enabling the Romanian community to visit their friends and family, and allowing German travellers to discover this rapidly growing city with its rich cultural heritage,” said Anastasia Novak, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, commenting on the latest route.

She also highlights the special partnership with Dortmund Airport: “Dortmund is Wizz Air’s most important partner in Germany and offers 36 routes to 17 countries. We are on track to reach an annual capacity of 3 million seats by the end of this calendar year. We are delighted to be continuing our growth in Dortmund and to be offering passengers in North Rhine-Westphalia access to an even wider range of attractive destinations. Let’s WIZZ!”
