Launch of the Direct Daily Service to Milan

Starting today, passengers travelling from Dortmund can fly directly to yet another European city. With its maiden flight, the Hungarian airline Wizz Air has launched a new daily service from Dortmund Airport to Milan Malpensa Airport. Travellers will now be able to reach the major urban centre in northern Italy in around 95 minutes. Guido Miletic, Head of Airport Services + Marketing & Sales, joined the Italian Consul, Alice Joy Cox, on the apron to welcome the crew of the maiden flight on their arrival. They then cut the ribbon to officially open the new route.
“The fact that Wizz Air is expanding its services to Italy from Dortmund is a valuable addition to our route network”, explains Guido Miletic. And there are plenty of reasons to visit the city, whether for sightseeing and shopping, to see Leonardo da Vinci’s world-famous Last Supper, or to watch a football match at San Siro – the shared home ground of AC Milan and Inter Milan. Dortmund Airport is over the moon about the new destination. “Milan is a city with international appeal and, far beyond Italy’s borders, a major centre for fashion, business and culture. “The new connection brings this major European city a little closer to our region and creates a direct option for business and leisure travellers."
Milan blends city life with a broad range of excursions in the Lombardy region of northern Italy: Lake Como, Lake Maggiore and Lake Garda are among Italy’s largest lakes and are ideal for day trips between picturesque waterside villages and stunning mountain panoramas. Milan also boasts easy access to the Alps with their wide variety of winter sports activities, especially in the colder months. The urban centre is therefore an exciting year-round destination and not just a place for classic city breaks.
Joining Palermo, Milan is now the second Italian destination that Wizz Air has serviced from Dortmund since the start of this year. Slated for the end of October, Rome will be the next Italian route extension.
