London Calling – Now Directly from Dortmund Airport

“This new flight connection means that passengers can now reach one of Europe's most important urban centres quickly and easily from Dortmund.” With these words, Airport Managing Director Ludger van Bebber yesterday opened the new Wizz Air route from Dortmund Airport to London Luton Airport. The roughly 70-minute flight by the low-cost carrier connects Dortmund with the cosmopolitan city on the Thames seven days a week.
“The entire Westphalian region will benefit from the daily Wizz Air flights directly from Dortmund Airport to London”, emphasises Ludger van Bebber. “As the capital of the United Kingdom, London is a financial and economic hub of global standing. It also attracts millions of tourists with its culture, history and lifestyle. The city is unrivalled in its combination of all these facets.”
Not only does the route present fresh opportunities for business travel and tourism, it also strengthens the relationship between the Dortmund metropolitan region and Greater London. “The direct connection to London is immensely important for the international focus of our business and science location. It brings Dortmund even closer to one of Europe's preeminent urban centres and facilitates the flow of ideas and investments. There is no doubt as to the essential nature of stable international connections and partnerships, especially in times of global challenges. This route will strengthen international cooperation and open up fresh perspectives for business, tourism and cultural dialogue between two great cities and regions”, says Alexander Kalouti, Lord Mayor of the City of Dortmund.
Dortmund's Mayor Norbert Schilff, the British Consul General Roseanna Watson and Martin van der Pütten, Head of International Relations for the City of Dortmund, gathered on the apron with the airport directors to welcome the crew and passengers on the maiden flight. Together they cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony as a symbolic inauguration of the route.
With the addition of London Luton to the flight schedule, Wizz Air, the airport's strongest airline partner, is continuing to expand its route network and now connects Dortmund with 32 destinations in 16 countries. “We are delighted that today’s first flight between Dortmund and London will establish even closer connections between these two dynamic cities. The new service expands our route network from Germany and provides our customers with even more flexible and affordable opportunities to explore Europe”, says Anastasia Novak, Corporate & Sustainability Communications Manager at Wizz Air.
