Wizz Air launches route from Dortmund to Bratislava

Dortmund Airport is expanding its portfolio of destinations to include yet another capital city connection: today’s first flight marks the official start of the direct route to Bratislava. Effective immediately, Wizz Air is now operating three flights a week – on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays – between Dortmund and the Slovak capital.
The airport management team gathered on the apron with Klaus Wegener, Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic, to welcome the crew of the inaugural flight. “Demand for the new connection between Dortmund and Bratislava will undoubtedly be vigorous. Around 7,000 Slovak citizens living in NRW stand to profit from the service. Not only is Bratislava an attractive tourist destination, the Slovakian city of Trenčín is certain to pull crowds as the European Capital of Culture in 2026. Dortmund and Bratislava will both benefit from this new destination”, explains Klaus Wegener.
Bratislava is just a 90-minute flight away from Dortmund Airport. Historically known as Pressburg, the major urban centre is perched on the border triangle between Slovakia, Austria and Hungary and is an ideal staring point to explore the region. Aside from the venerable old town on the River Danube, Bratislava Castle sits on an 85-metre spur of the Little Carpathians, shaping the cityscape. Cities such as Vienna, Budapest and Trenčín in Slovakia – the European Capital of Culture in 2026 – are easily accessible from here as well.
“The maiden flight to Bratislava is yet another step forward in growing our European route network”, says airport Chief Executive Ludger van Bebber. “Demand for direct connections to Central and Eastern Europe has risen steadily over recent years in both the business travel and city break segments.” Together with Wizz Air, we are now able to offer our passengers another attractive destination that will appeal to all kinds of travellers and their varied needs.”
