Ryanair changes its baggage policy

Starting 01/11/2018, only a small carry-on baggage is free.

Ryanair, as well as its competitor Wizz Air, will change its baggage policy from 01.11.2018. This mainly affects passengers who only want to travel with carry-on baggage. Until now, every passenger was allowed to take a small bag and a small suitcase up to 10 kg free of charge into the cabin or, if there was a shortage of space, leave it free of charge at the boarding gate. Starting November, only a single small bag can be taken into the cabin free of charge. However, their dimensions have increased from the previous 35 x 20 x 20 cm to 40 x 20 x 25 cm. The free drop-off of a larger piece of baggage at the gate will be eliminated.

Priority Boarding

Two pieces of carry-on baggage (a small piece with the above dimensions and a larger piece of wheeled luggage, up to 10 kg, 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm) may continue to be taken on board by passengers who have booked the Priority Boarding service for a fee. You can also board the plane before anyone else. The cost of this service is € 6 if booked directly with the flight, or € 8 if added later via the Ryanair website or app. It is important to be fast here: Only 95 of the coveted Priority tickets are available per flight.

New: 10 kg check-in baggage

Those who prefer to keep their hands free or have missed out on the “Priority Boarding” option can book a 10 kg drop-off baggage piece with Ryanair online. The baggage must be checked in at the baggage counter in front of the security checkpoint at the airport and picked up at the baggage claim area of the destination airport. The fee for this is 8 or 10 € depending on the booking time. The baggage booking class of 20 kg is still available. Each passenger may drop-off up to 3 pieces of baggage.

For passengers who have booked neither Priority Boarding nor a 10 kg check-in baggage online, there is also the possibility at the airport, to give drop-off a small piece of baggage up to 10 kg. A fee of 20 € per piece is due at the baggage counter; at the gate it costs 25 €.

Further details on the new Ryanair baggage policy are summarised on the airline website.
