As we enter the last quarter of the year, passenger numbers at Dortmund Airport are up 1.3% compared with the first three quarters of last year. A total of 1,522,792 passengers travelled through the Ruhr region airport between January and September, representing an increase of 19,000 compared with the same period in 2014. The months from July to September were once again the busiest in 2015.
However, passenger numbers for the third quarter of 2015 were down by 5.3 percent to 590,689 passengers compared with 2014. Results for this quarter, which includes the summer holiday season, were therefore weak as expected. Following the withdrawal of Air Berlin from Dortmund, the number of flights available to Majorca was down compared with last year despite the availability of extra flights with Germanwings Germania and Ryanair. easyJet also reduced the number of flights to London due to the low volume of business travel during the holiday season.
The airport operators anticipate a return to modest growth for the final quarter. The new Germania route to Fuerteventura in the Canaries should ensure increased passenger numbers. This will see a continuation of the growth trend over the year as a whole.
