Dortmund Airport is the third-largest airport in North Rhine-Westphalia. Only Düsseldorf and Cologne Bonn served more passengers in 2014. This has now been confirmed by figures for the sector released by the Flughafenverband ADV airport association. With 1,965,802 passengers, the Ruhr region airport again improved its passenger numbers, with 41,416 more than the previous year. "After the Rhineland with its two large airports, the Ruhr metropolis now has the country's third-largest airport. This is an excellent starting point from which to achieve our goal of breaking even within 10 years," declared Airport Managing Director Udo Mager. Dortmund Airport will announce its year-end figures and the 2014 operating results once these have been ascertained by the Supervisory Board in June 2015.
The ADV figures also show that passenger growth at Dortmund Airport corresponds approximately to the industry average. Numbers of passengers were 2.2 % higher in 2014 than the previous year. The Ruhr region airport occupies a middle ranking among all of Germany's airports. The same applies to its position relative to other airports. Dortmund has moved up one place, and now ranks 14th out of 22 international commercial airports throughout Germany.
