Increase in passengers at the airport in the third quarter

More destinations on the winter timetable

News quatal3 2017

The slight increase in passengers from the first half of 2017 continued in the third quarter, and further intensified with the figures at the end of September showing 5.3 percent more passengers using Dortmund s airport than in 2016. In total during the period July to September, 565,562 passengers were recorded at Dortmund Airport - this represents an increase of 3.3 percent in the third quarter.

The records from the first nine months show that Dortmund Airport has overcome the dip in growth due to the decline in Turkish operations from the previous year. From January to September a total of 1,495,661 passengers used Dortmund Airport for their air journeys. This is a cumulative increase in passengers of 2.7 percent compared to the previous-year period. Airport director Udo Mager is optimistic that this trend in operations will continue to the end of the year.

With the additional flight operations we have gained to the tourist destination of Hurghada in Egypt and Vienna in Austria, we have new growth drivers in our winter timetable. Combined with the established routes to central and eastern Europe, this forms a broad spectrum of destinations this winter, which will hopefully attract enough passengers to take us past the 2 million passenger mark , says Udo Mager.

Here are the changes for the winter flight timetable

From the 29th October the winter timetable applies at all of Germany s 21 international airports. At Dortmund Airport those with a thirst for travel will be able to choose from a total of 29 destinations in the 2017/18 winter flight timetable, including various major cities, but also attractive destinations for a break in the sun. The winter flight timetable will be replaced on the 25th March 2018 by the summer timetable. This time the winter timetable has some differences from the destinations offered last year, with four new flight destinations in particular:

Thessaloniki in Greece: The route to Thessaloniki which started in summer 2017 will also continue to be offered by Ryanair throughout the winter.

Malaga in Spain: The Irish airline now also flies to Malaga during the winter months. From the end of October 2017 to the end of March 2018 the Ryanair flights will leave every Monday and Friday.

Hurghada in Egypt: Recently, on the 4th October 2017, Dortmund Airport opened the route with Corendon Airlines Europe to Hurghada, a much-loved winter destination, which was not part of the Dortmund timetable last year. Corendon Airlines Europe adds a new airline to Dortmund Airport s partners.

Vienna in Austria: With six connections per week to the Austrian capital city from the 29th October, Eurowings is substantially extending its services from Dortmund Airport, further cementing its close ties with the airline.

Also starting with the new 2017/18 winter timetable, Eurowings is addressing the strong demand for business travellers on the route to Munich and has added an additional flight to the existing three daily flights. From Monday to Friday there will now be an additional service to Munich at 10:20. With this addition, Dortmund is perfectly linked with Munich. This further increases the options for achieving attractive hub-to-hub links.
