At the beginning of October, the fire brigade at Dortmund Airport received its eagerly awaited flagship: a PANTHER 6 X 6 made by the fire-engine manufacturer Rosenbauer.
The red giant
The extended model has an environmentally friendly Euro 6 engine with 750 hp and can accelerate from 0 to 80 km/h in just 29 seconds; the top speed is 120 km/h. 12,500 litres of water, 1,500 litres of foam, 250 kilogrammes of powder and 120 kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO2) can be stored in the red giant. Powerful pumps in the vehicle ensure that up to 6,000 litres of extinguishing agent can be discharged through the large roof-mounted jets per minute. The spray can reach up to 100 metres.
The fire-engine fleet
The new PANTHER 6 X 6 replaces a 17-year-old fire engine at Dortmund Airport. With the new addition, the airport fire brigade has three Panther-type airfield fire-fighting vehicles, several smaller fire-fighting vehicles, an ambulance, a command vehicle and an operations-control vehicle. This means Dortmund Airport’s fire fighters now have state-of-the-art equipment. And they continue to make an important contribution to sustainability and environmental protection at the airport.
