Dortmund Airport continued the growth trend of the previous periods in the third quarter, further increasing its passenger numbers. In the period from July to September 2018, there were a total of 16.1 percent more passengers than in the same period of the previous year. The passenger-boosting effects in the third quarter were mainly caused by the new connections introduced over the course of the year, frequency increases on particularly popular routes and the high-passenger summer vacations. Dortmund Airport is currently the only one of 22 international ADV airports that can show double-digit growth overall.

Airport CEO Udo Mager evaluated the traffic figures and explains: “A look at the traffic development in 2018 shows that we will reach the target mark of 2.2 million passengers unhindered by the end of the year and will in all likelihood surpass it. In addition to satisfactory utilization of the existing connections, route introductions by Wizz Air in particular are accelerating the growth at Dortmund Airport.”

With a total of ten new connections in 2018, which the Hungarian airline will have introduced by the end of the year, one of the fastest-growing airlines in the low-cost segment is once again showing its commitment to Dortmund Airport. The considerable passenger potential in the catchment area, which includes the populous Ruhr region, is one of the most important arguments for the airlines to consider setting up a new route.
