Dortmund Airport is heading towards a record year

Two million mark already passed in the third quarter

Udo Mager, Dortmund Airport

The benchmark of two million passengers, declared as Dortmund Airport’s clear target two years ago, was met in the third quarter this year. Since the beginning of the year, 2,037,146 passengers have passed through Dortmund Airport. That’s 19.4 percent more than in the previous year. 768,172 passengers flew from or to Dortmund in the third quarter alone.

‘We’re very satisfied with passenger development,’ says airport boss Udo Mager. ‘The signs are pointing to 2019 being the strongest year in terms of passenger numbers in the airport’s existence.’ In the previously strongest year of 2008, almost 2.33 million passengers used Dortmund Airport. In 2019, the airport made it to the 2.5 million mark.

Mallorca was the most popular destination

Thanks to the summer months, the holiday island of Mallorca was the most popular destination from Dortmund Airport in the third quarter. 74,582 passengers flew to the sunshine island between July and September. Kattowitz has been very popular throughout the year. In the third quarter of 2019, 65,492 passengers made use of the connection to Poland. The cities of London (52,736 passengers), Bucharest (44,566 passengers) and Munich (43,229 passengers) were also popular.
