Looking back on a successful year

A total of 2,586,342 passengers used Dortmund Airport last year. Thanks to the strong summer months with record passenger numbers, the forecast of around 2.45 million passengers has been exceeded despite the pandemic and the war in Europe. Compared to the previous year, Dortmund Airport managed to increase passenger numbers by around 53 per cent (previous year: 1,692,960), almost reaching the level of the record year to date, which was 2019 (with approx. 2.7 million passengers). This was the second-best result in the airport's history.

"We are delighted with the excellent results for the year. A big thank you goes to all our passengers and the airlines who put so much trust in our location. I would also like to thank all the staff at the airport who, as usual, ensured orderly and smooth operations throughout the year, even in times of very high workloads," summarises airport CEO Ludger van Bebber. 

During the Christmas holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia from 23 December 2022 to 8 January 2023, Dortmund Airport welcomed 127,460 passengers. The holiday balance sheet thus also significantly exceeded the forecast of 110,000 passengers as well as the figure from the previous year, when 103,375 passengers travelled during the holiday period. The destinations Katowice, Bucharest and Gdansk were particularly popular during the school holidays.

In 2023, Dortmund Airport expects more than 2.6 million passengers due to the very good development and is pleased to be able to offer its passengers a diverse selection of destinations again. Not all airlines have yet announced their flight schedules for the summer months, but destinations such as the European metropolises of Rome and Budapest, as well as the classic holiday destinations of Split, Rhodes and Antalya, have already been confirmed.
