After a successful end to the year, the NRW Christmas holidays are also ending with positive growth for Dortmund Airport. The airport originally expected a passenger volume of 140,000 travelers for the period from 21 December 2023 to 7 January 2024. In fact, exactly 153,353 passengers chose the Dortmund runway. Compared to the previous year, this represented a significant increase of around 20, which corresponds to an increase of over 25,000 passengers (2022/23: 127,460 passengers). This increase was a new Christmas holiday peak for the airport.

On 30 December 2023 and towards the end of the holiday season on 6 January 2024, the airport saw the two busiest days with over 10,000 passengers each. In addition to holiday-related frequency increases, the newly introduced flight connection to Istanbul also contributed to the increase in traffic figures.

The top destinations correspond to the overall results for 2023, with Katowice once again emerging as the most popular destination. During the Christmas holidays, the two low-cost carriers Wizz Air and Ryanair served the route between Dortmund and the Silesian capital a total of 120 times.
